Licensure Required DUTIES:
The incumbent will provide operative and non-operative management of the full range of Urology services supported by the infrastructure of the WRJ VA Medical Center. This includes urology inpatient rounds at the VA, attend surgical conference meetings and participate in M&M rounds to discuss surgical morbidity and mortality, assist in the teaching process of surgical residents, and review clinical practice, standards of care, and outcome(s). The preferred candidate will be board certified or eligible and eligible for faculty appointment at the facility academic affiliate, the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Be responsible for creating the urology service on-call schedul! e and submitting it to the Surgical Service AO before the beginning of each new month.

Collaborates with the urology residency program director at the academic affiliate to arrange resident training, teaching sessions, and resident on-call services for WRJ.

Urologists' responsibilities include providing patient care in the Operating Room, in PACU, and in inpatient settings including the Intensive Care Unit, acute care wards, outpatient clinics, and others as required.

He/she provides open and endo-urologic services as specified in his/her clinical privileges.

Participates in the Weekend/Holiday/Evening/Night on-call schedule in a proportion equivalent to other attending urologists.

Is responsible for providing the patient with risks, benefits and alternative treatments and ensuring that informed consent of the patient/family has been obtained before conducting invasive procedures.

He/she evaluates the patient to assess a! nd changes in the physical status, lab values and vital signs of the patient prior to surgery. Appropriate notes are written in the patient's medical records, time, dates, and signed.

Urologist provide inpatient and outpatient consultations as requested.

Participates in various hospital committees, department and hospital in-service programs and acquire CME's as required.

Works effectively with patients, families, co-workers, and other health care professionals treating them with respect and dignity.

Provides patient care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient.

The urologists are expected to use the best available procedures and perform them at or above national statistical levels.

Other duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
a. Citizenship . Citizen of the United States.

b. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:

(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.

(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.

(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

(4) F! or residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.

Applicants must provide an official copy of their college transcripts.

c. Licensure. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

d. Physical Requirements. Must pass a pre-employment physical.

e. English Language Proficiency. Physicians must be proficient in spoken and written English.

f. Board eligible or board certified .
