Licensure Required DUTIES:
The Emergency Department Physician Director has overall charge of care provided in the Emergency Department at the White River Junction VAMC. The Emergency Department physician covers 50-60% of weekday daytime shifts and occasional weekend shifts. The ED director is also responsible for scheduling coverage by a pool of other physicians, developing written policies, reviewing and improving overall quality of care, and improving the culture of patient safety. The ED director also coordinates transfers from outlying hospitals and integrates ED services with care provided by Ambulatory Care, Medical and Nursing Services and other care lines.
The White River Junction VAMC provides a full range of services with medical, surgical and subspecialty back-up available at all times. Trauma and stroke case! s are diverted or transferred.
The White River Junction VAMC is a teaching facility affiliated with the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Educational responsibilities include teaching, supervision and evaluation of medical residents and medical students rotating through the ED.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
a. Citizenship . Citizen of the United States.
b. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools ar! e:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membe! rship in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
(4) For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.

c. Licensure. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active! , current licensure.
d. Physical Requirements. Must pass a pre-employment physical.
e. English Language Proficiency. Physicians must be proficient in spoken and written English.
