Background and-or Security Investigation required DUTIES:
The incumbent will provide clinical and administrative support in a wide variety of basic ancillary activities in the Primary Care Line. Incumbent will perform a range of diagnostic support duties such as taking, recording and reporting vital s! igns, taking specimens, labeling specimens for the laboratory and performing routine repetitive diagnostic tests and procedures such as venipuncture and electrocardiograms according to written protocol or as directed by the physician or other professional staff. Other duties include but are not limited to positioning patients for procedures, maintaining patient records, receiving and directing patients, answering routine inquiries and making referrals, teaching patients proper health care practices and performing various health care duties.

Hours of duty: Monday -Friday, 8:00am -4:30pm QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Requirements:
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Qualifying specialized experience includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such wo! rk as that of a home health aid performing duties such as:

Pro! viding personal nursing care such as providing pre-and post-operative care.

Support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus.

Caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement.

Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients.

Education and Training:
For GS-4: Successful completion of a 2-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a program for a psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technician.

In addition the applicant ! must meet the folowing qualifications:

GS-4: Six months general experience and six months specialized experience or successful completion of 2 years of study abovl with courses directly related to the occupation.

GS-5: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 or successful completion of a full 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree, with courses related to the occupation.

General experience is (1) any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.

Specialized experience is technician experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position.

For education to be considered in lieu of experience the applicant must provide an official copy of their college transcript.
Training: Completion of appropriate training such as in s! ervice training programs, training acquired while serving in the Armed Forces, and government-sponsored developmental training programs will be allowed credit on a month-for-month basis, generally through the GS-5 level. Physical Requirements: The work requires the Nursing Assistant to be mobile throughout the Medical Center as needed, involving standing, walking, bending, pushing and lifting (moderate-heavy). The Nursing Assistant should be capable of prolonged standing/walking and be physically capable of pushing equipment.
